The speaker for this week’s meeting will be Rotarian Jonathan “Jack” Rhoads, retired thoracic surgeon at WellSpan/York Hospital. His presentation is entitled: "The Progress of Medicine in the Twentieth Century" and he will discuss a few scientific developments of the 18th and 19th centuries, the state of medicine in 1900, certain developments in science and multiple developments and improvements in medicine and surgery throughout the 20th century, and a few words about where we are now. Jack was born and raised in Philadelphia. He graduated from Germantown Friends School, Haverford College, and Harvard Medical School. He interned at Cincinnati General Hospital and did his residency at the University of Cincinnati (Surgery). He is Board Certified in Surgery and Thoracic Surgery. He came to York Hospital in 1985, joined the Rotary Club of York in May 1986, and retired from WellSpan in 2014.
