Next week, we welcome Jay Paterno, an author, co-creator and co-star of the show Nittany Game Week; a Penn State Trustee, and a consultant on a range of subjects from college athletics to communications to business ventures. Jay was also a college football coach for over 2 decades including stops at Virginia, Connecticut, James Madison and Penn State. His life has been one of constantly re-evaluating and re-learning enduring leadership lessons for a lifetime. Jay will discuss these lessons as well as the monetization of student athletes through name, image, and likeness endorsements.

Next week, we will hear from Phil Wenger, President of Lancaster Conservancy, an organization that protects and restores natural lands for future generations. Since their founding in 1969, the Conservancy has saved over 8,000 acres of land and manages the lands they own in 50 nature preserves. Their preserves, located in Lancaster County as well as along the Susquehanna River in York County, provide opportunities for passive recreation like hiking, fishing, hunting, and swimming.

Our program will feature Dr. Mehmet Oz, Republican candidate for US Senate. Dr. Oz holds a degree from Harvard, a medical degree from University of Penn, MBA from Wharton and training and professorship with Columbia. He is a well-known Thoracic surgeon and very successful self-made TV show host entrepreneur (8 Emmys) who has turned his attentions to representing Pennsylvania in Washington DC. The format of the presentation will feature a conversation style exchange with PP Dave Meckley moderating, utilizing questions received from our club's membership.
In the spirit of bipartisanship, an invitation was also extended to Democratic candidate Lt Gov John Fetterman without success for a similar opportunity with our club.

We will hear from Boaz Dvir director of the Holocaust, Genocide and Human Rights Education Initiative at Penn State. This initiative helps educators teach difficult topics at a time when the need for such instructional support is greater than ever, yet almost missing. The Initiative recently completed its pilot year, which included a partnership with the Red Lion school district in York County. Around the state, the Initiative has gone from one to six district partnerships and is exploring collaborating with half a dozen more.

In 2021, businesses in the United States added nearly 4 million jobs. At the same time, the United States has 3 million fewer workers today than we did in February 2020 before the pandemic. Everywhere we see businesses advertising for workers. How can businesses recruit employees, and how do you retain employees who may think that the grass is greener with a competitor? We know Walt Tilley from his work with our Youth Exchange program, but next week he is going to come in his role as a partner at his law firm, Stock and Leader, to share a fresh approach on Responding to America’s Labor Shortage. Walt brings a heart-warming story, his unique brand of humor, and an innovative business strategy to his timely and important message.

In recent years, Don has devoted his time to investing in and nurturing other manufacturing businesses through the Graham Group and its related entities. Don and his wife Ingrid have also supported many projects including those undertaken by his alma mater the University of Michigan as well as York College, Penn State York, and the YMCA. Don will talk about the more than 60 years he has spent in York, give an overview of his business and philanthropic interests, and talk about the importance of the York community in his personal growth and success.

We will enjoy lunch in the beautiful Yorkview Room and then proceed to DeMeester Recital Hall for a Holiday Program featuring a review of local high school student performances coordinated by Rotarian Lyn Bergdoll. Please note this meeting will NOT be recorded and posted on YouTube. If registered, you may join us at York College or watch it live via Zoom.
Registration to attend this off-site meeting is now closed. An email with a map and parking information will be sent to all registered attendees prior to the meeting.

Our speaker will be the Julie Wheeler, president, York County Commissioners. Julie was first elected in 2019 and as the Commissioner with the largest vote total was also elected as president.
Julie is a seasoned Fortune 100 business leader. She has more than 30 years of leadership experience in industrial and medical business sectors. Prior to her role as President Commissioner, she was a General Manager of a Medical Device Business at General Electric (GE). She has extensive experience in strategic planning, business development and operational leadership. She has experience leading both domestic and global businesses and has lived in Hong Kong and Japan.
Julie supports her local Red Lion Community as a member of the BPO Elks #1592. She’s a member of the Women’s Giving Circle and an active member of The Women’s Business Center Organization. She Co-Chairs the Stepping Up Initiative, is a York County Economic Alliance Board Member, and is active in many other community organizations. In 2021, she was honored with a Community Impact Award from Bro 2 Go, and the York County Economic Alliance as an Elected Official of the Year. Julie was recognized as the 2017 Central Pennsylvania Business Journal, Woman of Influence for Community Achievement.

Bryan Wade is a native of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, a former York educator, government official, and television talk show host with 20 years of radio, television, and documentary production experience. Bryan has a unique perspective on the remarkable stories and accomplishments of the African American Experience in America.
Bryan’s motivation for creating the Keystones Oral History Series was due to the lack of regional documentary and curricular materials within public education throughout the United States. Mr. Wade aspires to educate and inform emerging and future generations.
Mr. Wade's presentation will provide an historical overview regarding the evolution of Keystones Oral Histories. Additionally, Bryan will provide an update regarding his upcoming documentary and curriculum pertaining to the history of the Underground Railroad and Abolitionists throughout South Central Pennsylvania.

York native and Former Executive Director of the 2026 United Bid Committee, John Kristick, will talk about his experience leading the successful joint bid of Canada, Mexico, and the United States to host the FIFA World Cup in 2026.
The three-country bid was the most extensive sports event bid ever produced, adhering to FIFA’s detailed bid requirements.
Now President of Playfly Premier Partnerships, John continues to work closely with Host Cities ahead of the FIFA World Cup in 2026, providing ongoing operational and commercial strategy.

The organization was founded in 2019 to address a crisis in journalism in Pennsylvania: the ongoing and rapid decline of corporate-owned legacy news outlets. Spotlight PA is uncovering stories that would otherwise go untold and cutting through partisanship and misinformation to deliver trusted reliable journalism at no cost to all Pennsylvanians.
In only three years, Spotlight PA has become a leading national model for independent, collaborative journalism. Its work has won numerous state and national awards and driven meaningful change and policy reforms in the state capital and beyond.
