Weekly Club Meeting to be held at CCY and on Zoom.
This week, we welcome Cody Shoemaker, owner of The Popcorn Loft in York. Cody grew up in Dover PA. After high school, Cody pursued his aspiration of being an Athletic Director at the collegiate level. After working in collegiate athletics for 10 years both in the Big Ten and the SEC, he realized he wanted to own his own business with his wife, Elaina. Cody and Eliana decided to move back to York and put down roots where they could raise their kids around family and in a community they love. His message is one of hope, perseverance and inspiration that motivates people and helps them understand that we can do hard things when we believe in ourselves. He will share the importance of working hard for what you earn and helping out those around you while making a positive impact in your community.

Weekly Club Meeting to be held at CCY and on Zoom.
This week is our annual Veteran’s Day meeting. Author Sandra Lee Kearse-Stockton is a York native. A veteran with 30 years to her credit, Sandra retired as a Lieutenant Colonel from the U.S. Army. Her husband, Aaron, served 20 years in the U.S. Air Force, and retired as a Technical Sergeant.
Her military journey was full of unpredictable situations, trials and tribulations but she endured. Her story is one of perseverance and success against the difficult backdrop of childhood abuse, teenage motherhood, and gun violence that took her grown son. Sandra promised herself that she would work until age 70 and then focus on "writing that book that she said she would write one day". Sandra published her first book in her trilogy, “480 Codorus Street, Surviving Unpredictability” at age 71, a year after she retired from her civilian job working with veterans.
She has been a mentor for countless people. With 17 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, she and her husband somehow found the time to foster over 100 children. Sandra and Aaron wrote a book about their experience, titled "There Is Always Room For One More."
In May 2023, she was the recipient of the Four Chaplains Legion of Honor Award in York.

State of Child Care in York County - It is often said that early childcare teachers are the "workforce behind the workforce." The PA Early Learning Investment Commission (ELIC) is a partnership of business leaders dedicated to making the success of every child in PA a top priority. Community Connections for Children (CCC) is an Early Learning Resource Center, based in York County, that ensures families have access to high quality, affordable childcare. Christy Renjilian, CCC Executive Director, along with ELIC Emeritus Commissioners Pete Brubaker and Tony Campisi, will provide a brief update on the state of childcare in York County, and the early success of an innovative grant program to support early childcare teacher retention. This grant program was made possible with philanthropic, corporate, and county government support.

Weekly Club Meeting to be held at CCY and on Zoom.
For more than 125 years the York County History Center has collected, cared for and shared our county's history through its museums, historic structures, material culture, exhibits, programs and services. Holding a collection of more than 500,000 artifacts (more than any county historical organization in our region), and coping with $20M in deferred maintenance on 10 buildings and exhibits that had not changed in decades, Rob Kinsley and Joan Mummert, along with board members and volunteers, sought solutions to dramatically revamp the organization, fulfilling its legal obligation to hold collections and serve the public. Rob and Joan will briefly review that process and share the exciting state-of-the-art York County History Center set to open in June 2024. |
