This week we will hear from Congressman Lloyd Smucker, a member of the Ways and Means Committee and a senior member of the Budget Committee. Congressman Smucker champions policies that make it possible for every person to pursue their American Dream, including increased economic opportunity for everyone. Prior to being elected to Congress, he served two terms in the Pennsylvania State Senate and owned and operated the Smucker Company for 25 years until 2008. Congressman Smucker looks forward to addressing the members of York Rotary Club to provide a legislative update from Washington DC.

13 Sep 2023 WEEKLY MEETING - DG Fred Sep 13, 2023 11:30 AM - 1:15 PM Weekly Club Meeting to be held at CCY and on Zoom. This week we will hear from Rotary District 7390 District Governor Fred Gellert. Fred hails from Detroit Michigan and served 30 years as a US Army officer. He now resides in Middlesex Township (Carlisle area) and serves as the Professor of Science and Technology at the US Army War College. Fred’s Rotary journey began through his mother Judy Garver who was a District Governor in D6380 in Southeastern Michigan. He joined Rotary in September 2012 and is a member of the Carlisle Sunrise club. In the club, he served as the membership chairman and as the club president (2018-2019). At the district level, he has served as the Area Membership Chair and later the Assistant Governor for Group A. DG Fred will bring updates and attention to important Rotary issues as they pertain to both the RI and District levels.

14 Sep 2023 FELLOWSHIP EVENT - Ride the Chief Uncas Sep 14, 2023 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM On Thursday, September 14 at 4 p.m., join the Fellowship Committee to ride the Chief Uncas, the electric boat built by Adolphus Busch and part of the Susquehanna National Heritage Area. The cost is $20pp billed to your rotary account. The one hour ride on the river will be followed by a visit to the Zimmerman Center. The ride is limited to 24 people. Reserve your spot today! Kelly McKeown, President of North America and Global Sales at Quatro Apparel in York, joins us to share her journey from growing up on a 150 acre dairy farm in Seven Valleys, to working with some of the most famous clothing designers in the world, creating apparel for Olympians for 11 different Federations globally. As a young girl, Kelly learned the value of hard work, determination and how to be resourceful. She dreamed about creativity and fashion, but had no access to that world. Fast forward years later after getting her degree in Fashion Merchandising from the Art Institute and her Fashion Design Degree from Drexel University, she has negotiated contracts, partnerships and licensing deals with Cirque Du Soleil, and Disney; and secured licensing collaborations with Adidas, Reebok, Under Armour and Warner Brothers. Kelly has worked with endorsed athletes including Simone Biles, Aly Raisman, Laurie Hernandez, Gabby Douglas, Nastia Liukin, Shawn Johnson and none other than native York County, 2022 NCAA All Around Champion, Trinity Thomas. 27 Sep 2023 WEEKLY MEETING - Gilson Snow Sep 27, 2023 11:30 AM - 1:15 PM Weekly Club Meeting to be held at CCY and on Zoom. Nick Gilson - Founder and CEO of Gilson Snow, a premium manufacturer of snowboards and skis located in Winfield, PA - will join us to discuss the importance of failure and adversity through the lens of building a business from the classroom, to a cabin in the woods, to a global brand. Nick graduated in 2011 from Johns Hopkins University and taught middle school science in Nashville before launching Gilson Snow out of the classroom. He has received numerous awards in innovative product development and leadership and holds several snowboard and ski patents. He serves on the Governor’s Workforce Development Board and the board of the Innovative Manufacturers Center. His company has entered into deals with the NHL, MLB, Hasbro (Transformers, Monopoly), AC/DC, Slayer, Pink Floyd, among others. Nick and Gilson Snow have an intense focus on responsible US manufacturing, tight supply chains, taking care of their people, and telling meaningful, content-driven stories.

During a career that spanned 26 years in the U.S. Foreign Service, John Dickson served in five different countries, advancing American interests and working to enhance cooperation with our international partners. Since leaving the Foreign Service in 2010, he completed graduate studies in the Public History Program at the University of Massachusetts. There, John explored the relevance of historical understanding to our relations with other countries, the subject of his book, History Shock, When History Collides with International Relations, published by the University Press of Kansas in 2021. His contributions on history and foreign affairs have been published in both the Berkshire Eagle and History News Network. He teaches foreign affairs at the Osher Lifelong learning Institute and is founder and President of Encore de la Paix, a service organization for returned Peace Corps Volunteers from Gabon.
