Weekly Club Meeting to be held at CCY and on Zoom.
Founded in 1999, Summit Search & Rescue is a non-profit organization that provides man-trailing bloodhound/handler teams to law enforcement, as well as local, state and federal agencies. Averaging 80-90 call-outs each year, they assist in both missing person cases and in criminal investigation. Terri and Jim Heck will highlight just how bloodhounds locate subjects and evidence and about the uniqueness of the scent of each of us and how the bloodhound uses that to "find his man."

We will hear from AliceAnne Frost, Executive Director of York Tec Centro, who will discuss workforce training and development in York County and beyond. Now more than ever, accessible, and affordable workforce training is the cornerstone of addressing poverty, unemployment, and underemployment in our communities. York Tec Centro (also known as the York Community Resource Center), was established in 2021 by business, community, and philanthropic leaders in York, with the desire to address the issue of unemployment and underemployment in the community. AliceAnne will highlight how the issue of workforce development in York County impacts the whole community, from individuals to businesses, and why we must work together to create opportunities for better employment.

FEI was founded in 1978 by two prominent local families - Meckley and Flinchbaugh - to produce a highly engineered product for a new Caterpillar tractor design. This investment started FEI's journey as a contract manufacturer of precision machined components in Hellam Township. In 2012, FEI became 100% employee-owned. Now serving over 40 customers with $70 million in annual sales, 250 employees and 200,000 square feet of manufacturing space in Hellam township, FEI is a local manufacturing success story with a bright future!

For the last 20 years, the Horn Farm Center for Agricultural Education has been a source of nutritious food, farm-based learning, and creative place-making within our community. In October 2021, tragedy struck the Horn Farm Center when their historic farmhouse was hit by lightning and damaged by fire. Since then, the organization has been hard at work: recovering its operations, reimagining its facilities, and continuing to carry out its mission, serving over 5000 visitors each year. Executive Director Alexis Campbell will share the Horn Farm Center’s exciting plans for preserving, restoring, and transforming the historic farmhouse building into a community gathering and learning center. |

Her presentation will examine the 2024 Capital Markets Forecast: U.S. Economic Exceptionalism. Can the reign continue? The U.S. has typically been able to shake off its cyclical economic troubles and power forth into a fresh expansion. This time around, it may be more challenging to emerge victorious.

Revolution President Eric Menzer will fill us in on what's new for the Revs' as they launch their 17th season, and Atlantic League President Rick White will bring news from the Atlantic League on the changing landscape of partner league baseball, including the launch of a new team in Hagerstown, Maryland. Then, it's time to welcome back Revs Manager Rick Forney, who will introduce us to the 2024 version of York's hometown team. A buffet luncheon and fellowship beginning at 11:30am will be followed by our club meeting in the 1741 Club. |

We will hear from Dr. Thomas Burns, who became the fifth President of York College in July 2023. Prior to joining the York College community, he served as provost of Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. A graduate of Dickinson College, he taught in the Chemistry and Physics Department at Florida Southern and was named department chair in 1999. For six years, Dr. Burns served as the assistant dean for academic affairs for the Yale University Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. In 2006, he returned to Central Pennsylvania as associate provost for academic administration at Millersville University. Dr. Burns will speak about the state of York College today, his experience in his first nine months on the job, and his and the Board of Trustee’s vision for where the college is headed in the future. |

We will hear from Secretary of Human Services, Dr. Valerie Arkoosh, who was appointed to lead the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services by Governor Josh Shapiro in January of 2023. Prior to this role, Secretary Arkoosh served on the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners for eight years. As a physician and public health professional, Secretary Arkoosh was at the center of Montgomery County’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Her leadership, especially her transparency and public communication throughout the pandemic, was praised. She previously led the National Physicians Alliance, a national non-profit organization of physicians working for health care reform. During this time, she developed policy and legislative strategy, and promoted public engagement in Washington, D.C., Pennsylvania, and throughout the country. |

He is a former Army officer and has held leadership positions in finance, government, and philanthropy. He has served as the CEO of Bridgewater Associates and has worked in various roles in the federal government, including as Deputy National Security Advisor under President George W. Bush. As a candidate for the U.S. Senate, Dave will address how he will represent the interests of all Pennsylvanians and work to create a bright future for our state and our nation.

Join the Fellowship Committee for a networking event from 11:30am - 1pm on Tuesday, May 21, to include lunch and a tour of the recently completed Lake Williams Rehabilitation Project. Participants will meet Rotarian JT Hand at York Water’s Education and Employee Center at 11:30am for lunch, followed by an overview of the project from York Water’s Project Manager. Then we will travel to the Lake Williams Dam to gain an appreciation for this historic $40 million, 2-year investment in sustainable water resources for our community. Rotarians should wear comfortable shoes for visiting the project site. The tour will conclude by 1:00pm. Please RSVP by Monday, May 20, to PP Rob Bowen.

Pasch Inc. in 1990 and has a proven track record of successful projects and development in our communities ever since. Tim will update us on his most recent and largest project, Freedom Square Community, a master planned community with a town-center experience that includes both residential and commercial development programs featuring extensive outdoor amenities.

The recent retirement of Shank's Mare's owners Liz and Steve Winand, provided an opportunity for LSRA to continue outdoor education programming that has introduced over 30,000 area students to the Susquehanna River.

We will welcome Rotary Foundation Trustee, Marty Helman, to our club meeting. Marty joined the Boothbay Harbor, Maine Rotary Club in 2003, and in 2012-13 she served as Governor of District 7780. She served as president of the Otto and Fran Walter Foundation, a nonprofit that has helped build schools in developing nations, provided scholarships for at-risk youth, and partnered with The Rotary Foundation to fund the new Rotary Peace Center that will be located at Bahçeşehir University in Istanbul. Marty is an Arch Klumph Society member, and she chooses to support Rotary as a member of the Paul Harris Society and PolioPlus Society. She will speak to us on the Rotary Peace Centers, The Rotary Foundation, and growth topics.

We will hear from David Miller, a fourth generation farmer and the president of Miller Plant Farm, Inc. The original 29 acres was purchased on April 1, 1912 by his great grandfather, Howard Miller. Today Miller Plant Farm owns about 240 acres and has preserved 140 acres with the Farm and Natural Lands Trust of York County in 2023. Miller Plant Farm is believed to be the last working farm in Spring Garden Township. His son Dustyn and his nephew Steve, represent the 5th generation. Dave will tell us about Miller Plant Farm’s diversified business with a garden center, growing vegetable transplants for commercial vegetable growers, and their 50 acre vegetable farm, and 600 member CSA.

Join us as we celebrate York County’s and America’s birthdays and the anniversary of our nation’s first constitution! On August 19, 1749, the County of York was created as the fifth county of Pennsylvania. On July 4, 1776, the Second Continental Congress signed and adopted the Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia and on November 15, 1777, the Second Continental Congress met at the Courthouse in the square of York and adopted the Articles of Confederation, our nation’s first constitution, which formally ratified that the original thirteen colonies were now “United States of America.” Rotarians, President Commissioner Julie Wheeler and Register of Wills Past President Bryan Tate, will share how York County will be celebrating for four years, kicking off with York County's birthday in August!

Katie will also provide insights into Wawa’s community involvement and provide a birds-eye view of Wawa’s expansion in Central PA. |
