The William C. Goodridge Freedom Center and Underground Railroad Museum is a new destination for visitors and residents alike that has innumerable stories to tell that relate to the freedoms that we enjoy today as a result of overcoming perils in history. This is the story of a former slave who became one of York’s most successful businessmen and risked everything as a conductor and stationmaster with the Underground Railroad. Frank Countess will briefly describe the journey that the Crispus Attucks Association took to present this historic treasure to the public as well as the potential economic impact that this may have on York County. Then we will be graced with the presence of Mr. William C. Goodridge himself. Goodridge is portrayed by Kelly Summerford, a professional actor, who will have you spellbound with his interpretation of the inspiring and courageous spirit of William Goodridge. You will be the first to hear about the Grand Opening of the next phase of the museum, and a Rotary reception there, from Carol Kauffman, Community Development Director.
