Then, we’ll hear from Youth Exchange Student Becca Olderich. Becca is 17 years old and recently returned to the United States after having lived for one year in the beautiful country of Brazil. She writes: “I was lucky enough to be exposed to a rich culture that can be found in the most southern state of Brazil, Rio Grande do Sul. There, I met many wonderful people and learned a language that I have come to love, Portuguese. My host city, São Borja, was ten minutes from the international bridge to Argentina, thus introducing me to yet another different culture just across the river of Uruguay. I spent my days in Brasil drinking chimarrão, a typical tea, and listening to Sertanejo, a type of music similar to country, and most importantly, taking in every bit of the culture that I could. In all, I spent 11 months and three weeks in Brazil; a wonderful country that I didn’t know I would come to love so much, My year abroad was by far the best decision of my life so far.” Come hear about her life-changing experience as a Rotary Youth Exchange Student.
