ANNUAL VETERAN'S DAY PROGRAM:
Veterans Day was first called Armistice Day to commemorate the ending of World War I.  It was first proclaimed by President Woodrow Wilson on November 11th 1919.  In 1954 the United States designated November 11th as Veterans Day to honor all veterans of US wars.  Our speaker will be Rear Admiral Marianne "Mimi" Drew, United States Navy (Ret.) who served for 38 years working in an operational military environment and consistently broke through "glass ceilings" as the first woman to serve in variety of assignments, including five in command.  Mimi has titled her talk "As we celebrate this Veterans Day... What kind of example are we setting to prepare the next generation for service?".  Mimi will be joined by her husband Brigadier General Phil Drew, USAF (Ret.) and her daughter, Captain Cambell Kraemer, US Air Force Reserves.

We ask all members who have served to wear any portion of their uniform and we will ask each of you to gather for our traditional call of each branch to parade once again into the ballroom and allow our members to thank you for your dedication and service to our country.  Please arrive early as there will be a GROUP PHOTO OF VETERANS at 11:40am

COURAGEOUS CONVERSATIONS
As a global network that strives to build a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change, Rotary values diversity and celebrates the contributions of all backgrounds, regardless of their age, ethnicity, race, color, abilities, religion, socioeconomic status, culture, sex, sexual orientation, or gender identity. From this vision statement and the newly released DEI Commitment Statement and Code of Conduct, Rotary is activating their commitment for positive change. Advancing DEI, as a cultural change in Rotary around the world, is a critical part of us evolving as an organization and it’s the right thing to do.

The Rotary Club of York’s Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility (IDEA) committee needs your input before taking steps to advance DEI in our Club. We will hold five focus groups during the week of November 8. These "COURAGEOUS CONVERSATIONS" will focus on the topic of race. The goal of these conversations is to put people more at ease with discussing a topic that is fraught with controversy, debate, and division. At the same time, there will be a focus on the future, specifically about our club, and how it handles the topic of race, becomes more inclusive, and better represents the community that we work to improve. Your perspectives are important. The IDEA committee will work with you to make these groups a safe and respectful environment where everyone is free to speak openly with the understanding that group discussions are confidential.
Dates, times, and locations are listed below. Please register online Courageous Conversation Sign-up or contact Renea at roberdick@yorkrotary.org.  Groups are limited to the first 8 registrants.  * Currently at capacity.
