MEETING DATE
Wednesday, March 22, 2023

LOCATION:
HYBRID MEETING -
Country Club of York & Virtual Meeting on Zoom

PROGRAM-
Cryptocurrencies Demystified - Join Linda Duessel, CFA, CPA, CFP®, Senior Vice President
and Senior Equity Strategist with Federated Hermes, as she explains the concept, and many
others that are important to understand, as well as opportunities and risks in cryptocurrencies
in general, and Bitcoin in particular. Bitcoin has been around since 2008, but its price, size in the market,
and transaction volume have exploded in just the last few years. Interest has grown rapidly since 2019,
as several major public companies lent it credibility by allowing for payment in Bitcoin, as well as holding it
as an investment on their balance sheets. Increasingly, investors and their advisors are asking whether
Bitcoin should be held in portfolios, but first we must demystify cryptocurrencies and better understand
why the blockchain has been called one of the most disruptive innovations since the advent of the Internet.

At our March 15th meeting, the Club honored Deb EtterKathleen MirskyRuby Schmidt, and Fifi Spangler with the Service Above Self award. Deb, Kathleen, Ruby, and Fifi are volunteers at the courtyard garden at Alexander D. Goode Elementary School, an ongoing volunteer project affiliated with Temple Beth Israel's "Doing Good for Goode" initiative. All four women have played an integral role in transforming the garden from a neglected plot of land into a thriving oasis and outdoor classroom for local elementary and middle school students. With their help and guidance, students help plant flowers and harvest a variety of vegetables every spring and fall. These four women are true examples of placing Service Above Self!

NOW ACCEPTING 2023 ROTARY GRANTS LETTERS OF INTEREST - DUE APRIL 10

York Rotary Grants provide valuable funding support to address the changing needs of York through grant programs focused on improving our local community. Grants of $2,500-$10,000 will be awarded in 2023 that align local fields of interest with Rotary International’s focus to take action on our world’s most persistent issues. The fields of interest for 2023 are Economic Development (Growing Local Economies) and
Peace (Promoting Peace & Social Justice, and Gun Violence Prevention). Those wishing to apply for
a grant must submit a Letter of Interest by April 10. Grant guidelines and an online application may be
found here. High-scoring proposals will be invited to complete a full application for funding consideration.
The Rotary grant will cover up to 1/2 of the total project cost.

DONATE TO THE ANNUAL BOOK DRIVE - HELP PROVIDE BOOKS TO HOME-BASED FAMILY CHILD CARE PROVIDERS IN YORK CITY

The Literacy Committee invites members to participate in our Annual
Book Drive during the month of March. Your donations will help to purchase books to be distributed to children in York. This year our recipients are Home-Based Family Child Care Providers in York City. Home based family care providers are typically women taking care of up to five children in their home and are licensed by the Department of Human Services. Your generous contribution will go towards providing these children and their families with literacy materials for both the provider and the families at home. Rotarians may make donations by cash or check, or have their contribution billed to their Rotary Club account. A table will be set up at Rotary each Wednesday in March to collect your donation or pledge.
