Message from Glenn Miller, Legacy/Planned Giving Committee Chair:
Friends,
Several weeks into our current worldwide crisis, my wife and I were discussing our end-of-life plans. Fortunately most of our “affairs are in order” as the saying goes. But the simple, if unpleasant, truth is that the current crisis heightened our awareness of the fragility of life. We wanted to be sure that each of us knew everything we would need to know (passwords, file locations, insurance information, etc.) in the event that one of us became incapacitated or died. And we also wanted to make sure that our philanthropic concerns were accurately reflected in our wills. As we sat together watching the “leaderboard” throughout the Give Local York day, we were reminded once again of how easy it is to make a difference in our community. We can make that difference while we’re here, and we can continue to make a difference even after we are gone.
So much has changed in these lengthening weeks of physical (a word I prefer to social) isolation. But what hasn’t changed is the great community we live in, the needs of that community, and good people willing to help meet those needs. This fall, students will still “go to” college, and they will need scholarships like the ones that Rotary provides. This year, whatever else is changed, people in York will count on Rotary and Rotarians to provide the kind of leadership they know they can count on.
If you haven’t added the charitable arm of the Rotary Club of York to your Will or Estate Plan, please do it. Join me, and dozens of your fellow Rotarians in making sure that some things will never change – namely good Rotarians doing good in the community and the world.
