COURAGEOUS CONVERSATIONS
As a global network that strives to build a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change, Rotary values diversity and celebrates the contributions of all backgrounds, regardless of their age, ethnicity, race, color, abilities, religion, socioeconomic status, culture, sex, sexual orientation, or gender identity. From this vision statement and the newly released DEI Commitment Statement and Code of Conduct, Rotary is activating their commitment for positive change. Advancing DEI, as a cultural change in Rotary around the world, is a critical part of us evolving as an organization and it’s the right thing to do.
The Rotary Club of York’s Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility (IDEA)committee needs your input before taking steps to advance DEI in our Club. We will hold five focus groups during the week of November 8. These "COURAGEOUS CONVERSATIONS" will focus on the topic of race. The goal of these conversations is to put people more at ease with discussing a topic that is fraught with controversy, debate, and division. At the same time, there will be a focus on the future, specifically about our club, and how it handles the topic of race, becomes more inclusive, and better represents the community that we work to improve. Your perspectives are important. The IDEA committee will work with you to make these groups a safe and respectful environment where everyone is free to speak openly with the understanding that group discussions are confidential.
For the month of November, we will be holding a new member recruitment challenge. We are asking EACH ONE of our RCY members to BRING ONE guest to a weekly meeting who would be a great addition to our Club. Who do you know that would be an outstanding Rotarian? Who demonstrates Service Above Self in their community involvement, leadership, and commitment to York? Please register your guests with the OFFICE by Tuesday prior to the meeting they will attend. It takes EACH ONE of us to help our Club grow and thrive.
PROGRAM SUGGESTIONS- Program Committee Chair PP Mike Summers is accepting suggestions for upcoming programs at mvzs2@hotmail.com. The Program Committee will be meeting on Wednesday, December 1 to schedule January 2022 through June 2022.
