PROGRAM: 
Michael R. Helfrich, Mayor of the City of York, was elected Mayor in November 2017 and took the oath of office on January 2nd, 2018.  He had previously served as York City Councilman, Vice President of Council, and President of Council. Since 2005, Michael has also served as the Lower Susquehanna Riverkeeper, a legal and political advocate to improve waterways and communities around central Pennsylvania and northern Maryland. He also previously sat on the York County Community Foundation Codorus Watershed Endowment Advisory Board, was Director of the Board of Keep York Beautiful and the Watershed Alliance of York, and was Vice-Chair of the York NAACP Labor and Industry Committee.  Mayor Helfrich will be discussing keeping our community safe through COVID-19 response and recovery plans, building a safer community, and a new financial outlook for the City of York.

The American Red Cross building remains closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, therefore the Rotary Club of York office is CLOSED.  Bert and Renea continue to work out of their homes and have access to emails.  They do NOT have access to the office telephone or answering machine.  Access to the Rotary office is extremely limited. Youth Leadership College Service Award recipients, My-Hoa Do (Penn State York), Alison Altemose (York College of PA), and Rachel Fleagle (HACC), will be recognized at today’s meeting.
 
OUR DEEPEST SYMPATHY to Rotarian Meagan Given on the death of her father, Mark Hess on March 19.  Memorial donations in his name may be made to one of the clubs charitable funds online www.yorkrotary.org or by mailing a check to the Rotary office.

THANK YOU to everyone who donated to the Winter weather disaster aid campaign for Texas.  A check for $ 11,080 was sent to the Rotary Club of Beaumont, TX for food and clean drinking water which remains in demand.  
 
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT, WE ARE HEADED BACK TO THE CCY - Effective Wednesday, 4/14, the weekly Rotary Club of York meetings will RETURN TO HYBRID meetings - in person at the Country Club of York and virtual on zoom.  All information and directions, including the link to make your CCY reservation, and the zoom link for the virtual audience, will be available in the 4/14 The Announcer emailed on April 8.  There will be a limited audience at the CCY for the meeting (including lunch) at socially distanced tables based on Governor Wolf's regulations.

MARCH 31 - DEADLINE to participate in the LITERACY COMMITTEE BOOK DRIVE.  Our goal is to raise $ 2,000 for the Child Development Center at First Church of the Brethren and The Salvation Army. Your donations will help provide reading materials for more than 200 local children. Donate before 3/31 at www.yorkrotary.org by clicking "Charitable Donations," selecting "York Rotary Community Project Fund," and entering "Book Drive" in the comments. You can also shop and send books online via The Salvation Army's Amazon Wishlist!   
 
MARCH 31 - Application DEADLINE for STUDENT 
EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIPS!  Available scholarships for 2021 high school graduates include Merit Scholarships (Edwin P. Mangold, James C. & Carrie B. Bush, Sanford Kranich and Charles & Alma Diehl); the Arlington Kahley “Rising Musician” Scholarship and the John T. & Paige S. Monday, April 12 - Rotary District 7390 Development session 6pm-7pm on zoom.  The scheduled topic for this month is "Social Media SAVVY"

Thursday, April 22 - Inaugural Net-Walking Event 11:30am-12:30pm on Earth Day.  The group will walk along the Heritage Rail Trail south to York College and back (2 miles round trip on a flat, paved trail). Along the way, Rotarian Silas Chamberlin will explain several points of interest, such as new development projects adjacent to the trail, the infrastructure for the county’s broadband internet project, and future improvements to the Codorus Greenway.  Walkers are to meet at the Lafayette Plaza parking lot at the corner of Pershing and Philadelphia.  Please wear masks and social distance.  Guests are free to join us, and there is no limited to number of walkers.  Walkers are encouraged to stop at Central 
Market before or after the net-walk for lunch!
 
April 30-May 2 -  Rotary Tri-District Conference "Exploring New Opportunities, Together".  For additional information, or to register for this virtual conference, please visit https://www.discon2021.com/.  The 
conference will include 3 districts (7390, 7430 & 7450), 5000 Rotarians and 3 keynote speakers!  
 
APRIL 30 - Application DEADLINE for “Non-Traditional Student" scholarships.  Applicant must be working towards an undergraduate degree.  The scholarship criteria and downloadable application is available on

MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE NEWS - The RCY Board of Directors has approved, and our club is now offering, a HYBRID Membership.  This membership has been successfully introduced in other service clubs.  It expands growth in our service to community and removes barriers to membership increasingly told to us by professionals who are unable to commit fully as an active member but want to participate in Rotary.
• NEW MEMBERS only with virtual focus
• Commit to 50% attendance and committee service
• Pay $300 application fee, reduced quarterly dues (no meals), attend new member orientation, join a committee, engage with the Club.
• After 6 months of membership with mentor & monitoring, may change to Active (full) membership if they choose to.
