YWCA -We will hear from Rotarian Kim Bracey, who serves as the CEO for the YWCA York. She is the first African American woman to serve in this prestigious and meaningful role. Since joining YWCA York in July 2022, Kim has led the organization to strategic financial stability; positioned it as the second largest childcare provider in York County; and lead efforts to bring awareness to the perils of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and all forms of violent crimes. Kim will speak about YWCA York’s mission to eliminate racism; empower women; and promote peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all.

The Membership Committee recommended to the Board of Directors the following applicants for membership in The Rotary Club of York: Michael DeJulia (General Manager, The Yorktowne Hotel), proposed by Michael Hady; Kathy Dempsey (Independent Fiduciary and Financial Advisor/Insurance Agent, Primerica Financial Services), proposed by Jeff Lobach; and Michael Rascoe (Project Superintendent/Business Development/Concrete Saw Cutting Division Manager, Lobar Associates), proposed by Michael Black. Any objections must be received by February 7.
YORK ROTARY FOUNDATION INVITES SCHOLARSHIP APPLICANTS
The York Rotary Foundation, the charitable arm of the Rotary Club of York, announces $46,000 in college scholarships available for York City and York County students for 2024. Scholarships are available for graduating high school seniors, those currently in college, and non-traditional students enrolling later in life.
Students wishing to apply for York Rotary Scholarships can learn more about the criteria for each scholarship and begin the online application process by visiting www.YorkRotary.org/Page/Scholarships.
Application deadline is March 15, 2024. Questions on applying or about the online application should be directed to Michelle Richwine, Scholarship Coordinator, atmrichwine@tfec.org.
Scholarships Available:
Non-Traditional Student Scholarship – one-time $3,000 scholarship – York County students enrolled later in life in technical or trade school, college or university
“Service Above Self” Scholarship – two-year $3,000 scholarship – high academic achievement and community service for college junior
Bush Scholarship – four-year $1,200 scholarship – high academic achievement
Mangold Scholarship – four-year $1,250 scholarship – high academic achievement
Kranich Scholarship – one-year $2,200 scholarship – any area of study
Diehl Scholarship – one-year $1,200 scholarship – Engineering major with a preference for York City students
Smith Scholarship– one-year $3,000 scholarship – Agriculture major
Kahley Scholarship – one-year $1,000 scholarship – Music major with a preference for William Penn or York Suburban
Hayes Scholarship – one-year $3,200 scholarship – Equine studies major for college junior, senior or graduate student
Wagman Scholarship – one-year $2,300 scholarship – Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree at York College for college junior or senior
Rosenmiller Scholarship- one-year $1,500 scholarship – Health Care major
Thanks to the generous support of Club members, York Rotary Scholarships have been established to reward the academic success, community service, and student determination of York residents attending college, university, technical or trade school.
MEET THE NEW MEMBER - LEONA REGA
Leona Rega is Executive Director of Human Life Services in York, where she leads the organization and oversees daily operations. She is new to the York area, but has been involved in her local community as a member of the Tamaqua Area Community Partnership/Strengthening Families and Church of the Open Door Women’s Group. She enjoys art, reading, and gardening, as well as spending time with her spouse Shanon and three children, Jocelyn, Aaron, and Rachel.
