Kiwanis Lake Revitalization Takes Off

The Rotary Club of York and its Preserve Planet Earth Committee made great strides today on the Kiwanis Lake Project.
The cofferdam shown in the photos is being installed by Stewart & Tate Construction so we can isolate the existing floodgate. Once the cofferdam is in place, we can begin the necessary repairs to the gate including the controls, hydraulics, and overall mechanical operation. This critical step will allow flood control in the area during water events and allow the city to adjust the level of the lake for its future service needs. The new gate will feature much more sophisticated technology while protecting it from flood events like it had experienced in the past and to prevent it from failing in the future.

Here is the link to a video of the cofferdam installation https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TwF7qG3BqcQ

The Otto and Fran Walter Foundation has pledged $15.5 million to The Rotary Foundation to start a Rotary Peace Center in the Middle East or North Africa.
